All Hail Yog is a 5E D&D evil campaign, starring the cast and creators of Experience Points. In All Hail Yog, our rotating cast of characters play as effectively the Nazgûl – the fell servants of a dark lord, assembled to enact Yog's nefarious plans upon the unhappy world. All Hail Yog is a weekly actual play podcast. Each episode is around 30 minutes long and the first two episodes drop on Halloween night.

WHY AN EVIL CAMPAIGN?

The prevailing wisdom in the D&D community is that a long-term evil campaign is impossible. That it cannot be done. That, eventually, the party will fall to infighting and betrayal and icky behavior. That evil characters – much less evil campaigns – cannot be done. I strongly, respectfully, disagree.

 

I wanted to undertake the challenge of how to structure and run a campaign that was not only evil but gloriously so. All Hail Yog isn't scummy, back-alley evil – this is grand operatic evil, on the scale of Sauron and Satan and Skeletor. By bringing all the characters under the umbrella of a single goal – that of their dark lord – it encourages and disincentivizes the traditional toxicity that so plagues an ordinarily evil campaign. 

 

WHY A PODCAST?

This is also something I've long wanted to wet my toes with. I love actual play podcasts. As an auditory learner, I'm the kind of person who will strip the audio out of a VOD game or even turn the brightness down on my computer so I can just listen to the voices. Though I have a little audio engineering experience, I've always wanted to try my hand at a regular podcasting project but needed the right idea – the evil campaign – to push me out of the nest.

 

A podcast, as opposed to a livestream, also allows us to maintain our XP brand, that of polished, streamlined content. As fans of #JrAL might remember, we're not really equipped to run, play and manage a livestream campaign without weathering a hurricane of technical difficulties. As a podcast, All Hail Yog will be shorter, more regular and sound better than any live game we could, at this stage, hope to run.

 

WHO'S PLAYING?

We don't want to reveal the first player roster quite yet – watch our Twitter feed for more updates – but we think you'll hear some familiar voices, especially on this first go-round. One of the things that makes All Hail Yog a unique campaign is that the cast changes, arc to arc. Each ten episodes, we'll shake up the party dynamic – introduce new players, bring back favorite characters from previous adventures. This will hopefully keep things fresh and interesting, keep the party dynamics ever-shifting.

 

Something else that makes All Hail Yog unique is that, in addition to their thorough wickedness, these are far from your standard player characters. Because of the nature of the campaign, I've allowed the creation of some truly wild characters, with powers and abilities and in some cases whole classes far beyond the PHB. We're aiming for supervillainy here and I think you're gonna love seeing our villains in action.
